I do not have a specific retail shopping incident but I must say that, on more than one occasion, I have been standing waiting to be served only to see the shop assistant approach a man (who arrived after me) or, in the case of a furniture store, the shop assistant will ignore me and approach a couple instead. The impression I get is that because I am a woman on my own:
- I don't have any money to spend
- Men are more important
This is an attitude problem and I am always reminded of the scene in "Pretty Woman" when Julia Roberts returned to the store where she was ignored, carrying bags of clothes, and said to the shop assistants: "Remember me? I came in here with money to spend and you ignored me. Big mistake!" (Or words to that effect)

James,
Retail APATHY or retailer STUPIDITY
I had a similar experience, 28th June LAST year walked into a retail computer store to purchase a laser printer - (I am a bit hands on when buying things like this.) I am standing in front of a Laser printer looking at it and the sales guy asks if he can help, to my response he says - No we do not sell Laser Printers - Funny I thought as I walked out.
Just last Friday 29th June THIS year I am looking for a Colour Laser, the store has changed hands so I thought I would give it another try, I was standing with my hand on a Colour Laser printer on the shelf, different sales guy but guess what - the same response, we do not sell colour laser printers. No prizes for my reaction again.
Message to all people who want to sell anything - If you do not know, try this - "look I'm not really sure what we have or what we can get in that product group, give me a minute and I will check for you" because I will wait 1 minute and you could get a sale.

Who is at fault the Sales person or management - doesn't really matter in a town of our size I am guessing the business will change hands again soon.

Maybe it's time for the government to step in and clean out this internet swampland full of incestuous cross promoters. There are too many freaks taking advantage of naive people on the internet.

If the internet marketing industry leaders cannot regulate themselves and act arrogantly because they have more money than us, maybe just maybe it's time for the government to step in and regulate this industry. It's time to put adults in charge instead of "fake family type men" going thru a middle-age crisis who now want to be and act like Hugh Hefner.

James,

Thank you for supporting what so many of us have been saying about this issue. The well-known marketers who have endorsed this party and used these marketing methods hopefully will realize the amount of damage they have caused to this industry.

Our industry has difficulty in establishing credibility as it is among the mainstream business community. This entire fiasco has done damage to everyone who calls themselves an Internet marketer.

I'm concerned about the hypocrisy that some of these endorsees have engaged in, and I'm also concerned about the lack of forethought as to what the ramifications would be. Let's remember something: there were likely children that received this correspondence, as there are many teens who dabble in our business. Can you imagine being a parent who has to worry about whether their child will receive profanity-laced emails simply for wanting to learn more about Internet Marketing?

I don't know about you, but I don't remember signing up for that when I opted-in! The trust level that many of these marketers spent years to establish is erroding by the minute.

I challenge reasonable marketers, who made an error in judgment, to come forward and admit they may have made a mistake sending people to this salesletter and aligning themselves with this person. Some have already, and it is quite encouraging. But as of today, the silence among the "gurus" is deafening, and we are all aware of it.

Thank you for your post!

This add does seem very offensive. I think they want to attract a young "bold" audience who will do whatever it takes to make money, hence the language. I however think that people who use such a strong language in a desperate attempt to attract customers do not have any other "marketing skills" and probably are not worth much. In Russia we have a saying: "the dog which barks the most never bites".
